CELLER COOPERATIU DEL PINELL DE BRAI

Culture

The “Celler Cooperatiu de Pinell de Brai” (Pinell de Brai Cooperative Wine Cellar) is a modernist style building and is one of the most representative exponents of this artistic style in the “Tierras del Ebro” region. Built between 1918 and 1927, it is the work of the architect Cèsar Martinell, born in Valls in 1888 and disciple of Gaudí. The complex is composed of three adjoining front naves and two more located transversely at the rear of the building and at different levels. The roof of the building is supported by a series of elliptical brick arches. Of the external decoration, it is necessary to mention the ceramic frieze, work of the painter Xavier Nogués. The tiles represent various scenes on the vintage, wine presses, oil, wines tasters´ glasses, and various allegories, which are completed with a scene of hunters. The building has been declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest by the Government of Catalonia.
