It is one of the traditional crops of the Ebro Delta, as it allows a great use of the land near the river. The varieties with Protected Denomination of Origin are exclusively marketed in the extra category and are: Bahía, Tebre, Sénia, Fonsa, Bomba and Montsianell.
Its quality is due to both the characteristics of the soil and the climatology of the area as well as the salinity of the water and the height of the water table. The importance of this product in the agriculture of the Delta is also reflected in the gastronomy, since even own plates have been generated based on the rice, as is the `arroz a banda´.
