Itinerari El Pla d'Avària

The route is a comfortable walk and is a good way to be witness to the intense exploitation that the forest has been subject to in the most accessible flat areas. Historically, a diverse range of raw materials have been extracted from the forests, with wood standing out for its economic importance. We enter forests with examples of, mostly young, Scots pines (Pinus sylvestris) and Pyrenean pines (Pinus nigra subsp. salzmannii). The remaining stumps are witness to the enormous size of the trees that existed and were later cut down. We go along the old timber hauling paths which were used to pull the wood, initially with mules, and then in more recent times, with mechanical means.
